This volume presents an account of recent phenomenological research into the philosophical problems of identity and alterity from an intercultural perspective. The collected essays were first presented at the inaugural conference of P.E.A.CE ("Phenomenology for East-Asian CirclE") organized in May 2004 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with participants from East Asia, Europe and North America. The 25 essays address questions regarding cultural traditions in general and specific cultural traditions in particular, especially those of East Asia. While reflecting on the difference between the Western phenomenological tradition and the Eastern traditions of thinking the Other and the foreign, this collection of essays documents the joint efforts of East-Asian and Western phenomenologists to engage themselves in intercultural philosophical dialogue.
