A Study of Literary Influence. The study demonstrates in detail the extent of the influence of Juvenal on the works of the French poet and satirist Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux. Pointing to Boileau's First, Fifth, Sixth and Tenth Satire, Colton shows that Boileau borrows themes from Juvenal and reworks them, adding touches of his own and couching the new passages in language that is less strident and less shocking, more dignified and more restrained.
