Literature for Youth and Children in Ancient Greece. The book deals with the classification of humorous epic in ancient Greece, investigating the assumption that comic epic constitutes an independent genre from parody. Although very few fragments have survived, there is enough evidence to postulate three different sub-genres: humorous oral epic, written parodies, and beast epics. Each corresponds with a different period of Greek history, different authorship, different public and different purpose.
